Computers & Equipment

The LAU Libraries provide a comprehensive range of computers, mobile devices, printing, scanning, and specialized equipment to support teaching, learning, and research. Resources are available at the Riyad Nassar Library (Beirut), Joseph G. Jabbra Library (Byblos), and Health Sciences Library (Byblos).

Public Computers & Workstations

Desktop computers and workstations are available across all three libraries to support academic work, research, and access to electronic resources. Login with your LAU credentials is required.

📍 Riyad Nassar Library (Beirut)
  • Public computers available throughout the library for research, coursework, and academic use.
  • The Creative Space features high-performance computers equipped with locally hosted AI tools and specialized software to support learning, research, design, and content creation. Learn more on the Creative Space page.
  • The EIC Computer Lab 803 is a specialized computing space equipped with software and tools for data science, data analytics, machine learning, statistical computing, and related fields. The lab is also designed to host classes, workshops, training sessions, and other academic events when needed.
📍 Joseph G. Jabbra Library (Byblos)
  • Public computers available in designated study areas for research and coursework.
  • The EIC Computer Lab 207 is designed to host classes, workshops, training sessions, and other academic events when needed.
📍 Health Sciences Library (Byblos)
  • Computer workstations are available to support the academic, clinical, and research needs of health sciences students and faculty.
Availability: Computers are available during library operating hours and are intended for academic and research purposes. Availability of specialized labs may vary based on scheduled classes, workshops, or other library events.

Accessibility Stations

Designated desktop computers and laptops on each campus are equipped with assistive technology:

  • JAWS – screen-reading software for users who are visually impaired
  • OpenBook – converts printed materials and PDFs into speech

Laptop & Device Lending

Laptops are available for short-term loan to currently enrolled LAU students for in-library use only.

  • Present your valid LAU ID at the Circulation Desk to borrow a device.
  • Devices are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Save all work to a USB drive or cloud storage before returning the device. Data is cleared upon return.
Users are responsible for the device while it is checked out. Late returns, damage, or loss may result in fees. Please inquire at the Circulation Desk for current policies and charges.

Using Your Own Laptop

LAU Libraries offer a comfortable environment for working on personal devices. All locations provide:

  • High-speed Wi-Fi (LAU-Secure) available throughout the libraries
  • Power outlets at most study desks (please bring your own charger)
  • Printing from your device (see instructions below)
  • Access to library electronic resources — available both on-campus and off-campus via proxy

Printing, Scanning & Photocopying

Convenient printing, scanning, and photocopying services are available across all campuses. You can print from library computers or from your personal device using the LAU Printing Management System.

  • Black-and-white and color printing options
  • Scanning to email, USB, or other destinations
  • Photocopying (including double-sided where available)

Print from Your Device

Follow these steps to print from your laptop, smartphone, or tablet:

Step 1: Access the Printing Portal
Go to the LAU Printing Management System: https://pms.lau.edu.lb/
Login: Enter your LAU email username (the part before @) and your LAU password.
Step 2: Download & Install the Printing Software
After logging in, click “Download installation for your device” based on your current campus.
  • Windows: Run pc-mobility-print-printer-setup.exe and follow the setup wizard until “Finish”.
  • Mac: Download and run the Mobility Print installer. After installation, print as usual.
  • Android: Click “Install or Update”. Mobility Print will be installed on your phone.
  • iOS (iPhone/iPad): Download the PaperCut profile using Safari. Then go to Settings → Profile Downloaded → Install (or General → Profile → PaperCut Mobility Print for iOS → Install).
Step 3: Print Your Document
Once the printer is installed, print any document to the installed printer as you normally would.
Step 4: Release Your Print Job
1. Scan the QR code located on each printer using your smartphone camera or a QR code reader.
2. Click “Release” to print your job.
Printing Tips
  • Print jobs are held in the queue for 2 hours before being automatically deleted.
  • Scanning to email (PDF or JPEG) is free of charge.

Printing Credit

You can purchase additional printing credits online through the Printing Credit System.

Users’ Responsibilities

The Lebanese American University Libraries abide by the “Fair Use” provisions of the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17). If a user makes a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use”, he or she may be liable for copyright infringement. The institution reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Computer & Internet Use Policy

Access to LAU Libraries computers and the internet is a privilege granted to support the university’s educational and research mission. All users are expected to comply with the following guidelines (adapted from the official LAU Libraries Computer Use Policy).

Acceptable Use

  • Authentication required: Computers require login using your LAU email address and password.
  • Academic use only: Computers are intended primarily for academic work, including catalog searches, research, and access to electronic resources.
  • No commercial or political use: Using library computers for commercial purposes or political lobbying is prohibited.
  • Legal activities only: Users may not engage in illegal activities, including spreading viruses, violating copyright, or installing unlicensed software.
  • Respect others: Offensive, obscene, or disruptive language and materials are strictly prohibited. Do not disrupt the work of others.
  • No chain letters or mass mailings: Generating unnecessary network traffic or excessive printing is not permitted.
  • Privacy: Respect the privacy of others; do not repost or modify data files without consent.

Prohibited Activities

  • Attempting to bypass network security or access restricted systems
  • Using library computers to hack, crack, or gain unauthorized access to any network or system
  • Installing software without authorization from library or IT staff
  • Using library resources for harassment, stalking, or intimidation
  • Misrepresenting oneself or using another person’s login credentials

Monitoring & Enforcement

The Libraries reserve the right to use monitoring and logging software to ensure compliance with this policy. Violations may result in disciplinary action in accordance with university policies, including loss of library privileges and referral to the appropriate university authorities.

Consequences of Violation

  • Immediate suspension of computer and internet access
  • Revocation of library borrowing privileges
  • Referral to the Dean of Students or University Judicial Council
  • Possible legal liability for illegal activities conducted using library resources

General Policies & Guidelines

  • Library computers and equipment are primarily for academic and research use.
  • Users must comply with the University’s computer-use and acceptable-use policies.
  • Food and drinks should be kept away from equipment.
  • Time limits may be enforced during peak periods to ensure fair access.
  • Report any technical issues to the library helpdesk immediately.
